Shutters in Birmingham, designed for everyday living

Shutters become part of the window, so the panel layout deserves as much attention as the finish. Think about which windows you open, the privacy you want from the street and where furniture sits. We turn those details into a practical shutter design.

AdamsBlinds provides advice, surveying, supply and installation for Birmingham shutter projects, including bay windows and suitable unusual openings.

Choose how the window works

Start with privacy and panel movement

We can compare the main arrangements using your window, rather than asking you to choose a style name without context.

Full-height coverage

Full-height panels cover the opening from top to bottom. Discuss where you want the louvres to operate together or in separate sections, and whether a dividing rail would suit the window’s proportions. The precise configuration depends on the chosen system.

An open upper window

Café-style shutters cover the lower part of the opening, leaving the top uncovered. Tier-on-tier shutters instead have separate upper and lower panel sets. We can help you compare the appearance and access implications of both approaches.

Wide or unusual openings

Tracked and shaped shutters need more detailed planning. We look at where panels can fold or slide, where they will rest when open and whether any section must remain fixed. An attractive closed view should still allow practical use of the space.

A survey with a purpose

The small details that shape the finished result

Please show us how you currently use the windows and anything you find inconvenient. That information is as helpful as the dimensions.

Bay angles and window features

For a bay, the survey considers the relationship between its sections as well as handles, sills and opening windows. We discuss how the frames meet and where panels can move, so the agreed layout is clear before the order is placed.

Furniture, radiators and access

A sofa close to the sill or a radiator beside the opening may limit panel movement. Tell us what will stay in place and what might change. We plan the layout around the room you intend to use, including access for cleaning.

Materials and the room environment

Bathrooms and other damp spaces need a material appropriate to their conditions. Moisture-resistant options are available to discuss, but suitability is checked for the selected product. We also review finish samples with the surrounding joinery and decoration in mind.

Review the design before ordering

Know what has been agreed

Shutters are manufactured to the approved specification. A clear record of the choices helps keep the process straightforward.

Confirm the visible details

Check the material, colour, panel arrangement, louvre size and control method on your quotation. We will explain any product-specific limitations and anything that affects access to the existing window. Raise questions before approving manufacture.

Allow for the manufacturing period

A typical shutter order takes approximately eight to twelve weeks, with timing confirmed for the selected range. Tell us about a renovation or moving date early. Estimated production and fitting dates should be considered when planning the rest of your work.

Finish with a useful handover

At installation we check the agreed panel operation and show you how to use the shutters. Keep the order details and care information so you have them to hand if you need help later.

A few practical answers

Questions about shutters.

Have a question about your own windows? Include it in your enquiry and we will talk it through.

Can shutters work on a window facing the pavement?

They may be a good option where you want to manage street-level views. We discuss how much of the opening to cover and how you want to adjust the louvres. The right arrangement depends on the window height, room use and preferred outlook.

Do shutter panels always fold back completely?

No. Their movement depends on the panel arrangement, frame, window position and nearby obstructions. Some shaped designs have fixed sections. We explain the proposed opening pattern during the survey so you can judge whether it suits your routine.

Will shutters provide complete bedroom blackout?

Shutters reduce incoming light but are not automatically a complete blackout solution. Small amounts of light can enter around panels or louvres. If darkness is your main concern, tell us so an additional treatment or another system can be considered.

Can I obtain a first estimate from a photograph?

Yes. Include a view of the whole opening, approximate dimensions, the number of windows and your postcode. For bays, photographs of all sections are useful. The estimate is refined once the design, measurements and installation requirements have been checked.
