01 / Planning your project
Consider operation without accessible hanging cords.
Depending on the product, options can include a suitable motor, wand or tensioned operating arrangement. Compatibility needs to be checked for the particular system and size; the absence of one control cord does not remove the need to assess the whole product.
Discuss how the blind will be used and who needs to reach it. In schools, nurseries and other shared spaces, that conversation should include the person responsible for the building and its safety requirements.
02 / Planning your project
Keep safety devices installed and in use.
Where cords or chains are used, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the appropriate tensioner, breakaway or cord-storage device. A safety component should not be removed because it makes a different fitting position more convenient.
Move cots, beds and climbable furniture away from accessible blind cords and chains. Keep cords secured after use and check devices if a room is rearranged or a blind is moved.
03 / Planning your project
Get the right guidance for an existing blind.
If an existing arrangement gives cause for concern, keep children away from the hazard and obtain appropriate advice. The BBSA Make it Safe campaign explains the different systems and available safety measures.
We assess service enquiries for AdamsBlinds-supplied products. For a blind supplied elsewhere, contact the original supplier or a suitable specialist; the official guidance below is available regardless of who supplied the blind.
